This node exhibits two choices I'd made on how to direct the story. One was to feature specific celebrities early and often, to the extent that I'm almost name-dropping for its own sake.
Another was that there didn't have to be a consistent world from branch to branch; these two choices give the player the option of being Tom Cruise, or as it turns out, Mel Gibson's brother.
Each choice can affect the state of the entire world, as long as it doesn't contradict anything said in a parent node. The practical reason behind this is that I wouldn't want a node author to have to check the entire story tree to maintain proper continuity. The real reason is that it's more fun this way.
